vintage “beaufort” chairs

savoy-chairsi gained the inspiration for these chairs while sipping the perfect martini at the art deco jewel box which is the beaufort bar within london’s savoy hotel (more about that at my blog the richmond). i loved the way everything in the room was in elegant black lacquer with metallic highlights and shots of warm white. and like so many before them, these chairs came to us looking a bit broke down. their original paint was chipping and they had been reupholstered in a hideous orange fabric. from their scale and shape i believe them to be circa 1950s. we began by giving their finish a complete work over in a very subtle, very dark gun metal grey metallic hue. next they were reupholstered in this luxe warm ivory velvet. we also recreated the original piping and button detailing.  and now, like a once grand hotel which has been given a brush-up, they are again standing (or perhaps sitting) proud. we love their subtle curves – which hark back to the 1920s. it seems that everything this spring has a bit of an art deco styling (thanks to a new visit from our old pal gatsby). but while the movie adaptations may come and go, thankfully the chair’s curved lines and color pallet remain relevant.  for the few days they have sat in our window they have received many a breathless stare.  images conjured of some far off fabulous room.  for it seems glamour and timeless elegance are always hard to beat.  vintage “beaufort” chairs in metallic gunmetal and ivory  - $2295 (PAIR)

ceramic elephant garden stools

vintage elephantthis pair of pachyderms came to us from an estate auction. they certainly are adorable and we believe them to be cira 1950s  (but they definitely were inspired by the victorian era.)  finding one of these stools is terrific, but finding two is fantastic. when i purchased them, the pair was a bit banged up with a few minor chips and scratches. luckily, the team from broken art here in chicago, was able to restore them and bring them back to their glory days.  fresh off this face-lift they were used as props for the style blogger panel recently held at the chicago botanic garden’s antique and garden fair (more info about that here) and they received a lot of attention.  now they are looking for a new home.  i see them being used to add a bit of old world charm to a more modern setting.  or they would easily integrate into a more traditional home.  in either case they certainly would be a solid companion for any side chair – always on hand to hold a cocktail or help out in general. after all, they really are great guys.  vintage ceramic elephant garden stools – $995 – PAIR (SOLD)

gold mastercraft cabinet circa 1970s

brass etagerecan a cabinet be sexy? i say yes. we use these fantastic vintage cabinets to display jewelry in the store.  often clients ask about purchasing one – but we just couldn’t let them go (they so perfectly reflect the antithetic of our store and they make anything displayed within them truly shine).  however, as luck would have it,  i recently came across a third cabinet – and this one is for sale.  the piece dates from the 1970s and it was manufactured by mastercraft (one of the country’s finest cabinet makers – a company still in operation right here in chicago).  the piece has a total of four doors and two cabinet areas.  the outside of the cabinet is polished brass (and has a few very minor imperfections consistent with its age).  the three interior glass shelves are adjustable – with plate grooves – consistent with the piece’s original intended use as a china cabinet.  the back of the display area is a smoked chrome with a subtle tortoise detail.  it also has two working lights on their own dimmer.  these cabinets are becoming increasingly rare in the market because people love holding on to them to displaying treasures collected through the years.  the magnetized doors also have a certain heft when you open them, a feel which is consistent with the quality craftsmanship of the piece.  something, which like the cabinets, is also increasingly hard to come across these days. brass mastercraft display cabinet circa 1970s (84″h  x 32″w x 16″d) – $2295

metal parsons chair

chairthe classic parson’s chair has to be our all time favorite chair form.  the open arms, and square shape, create a modern and airy effect we love.  this version, made with a raw dark metal base, and tufted linen upholstery, is a fantastic fresh interpretation of the classic shape.  the piece comes to us from a calofrnia based furniture maker know for their crfatsmanship and attention to detail.  the chair is upholstered in a durable flax linen which beautifully softenes the industrial feel of the metal base.  the tufting details also add a bit of old world charm to this oh-s0-modern furniture piece.  like most of home items in our store, we love the fact that this chair can easily integrate into either a traditional or more modern design motif.  it is all about the mix you know.  and this chair makes it easy to relax and pat yourself on the back for scoring such a cool new piece at such an easy price.  well done.  metal and tufted linen parson’s chair – $895 (multiples available for special order).

1950s “spectator” wing-backs

grey chairour signature grey upholstery is back – but this time with a twist. found at a local estate auction, these wing-backs are sure to make a modern statement in any setting. believed to be circa 1950s, they are a handsome set.  the scale is slightly smaller than the traditional version – allowing them to work together in a smaller space.  they also would be a sophisticated addition to any dining room set as the master chairs (and pairs are hard to come by).  each has been completely reworked from top to bottom. their legs have been refinished and given an ebony treatment to bring them into the 21st century. all the stuffing and padding have been replaced and they have been completely reupholstered in our workshop.  here we choose a light grey velvet and paired it with contrasting cream velvet piping.  this creates the “spectator” effect.  and although they are vintage, they do not sit low like so many pieces from that era. a wonderful pair, unique and gorgeous, at a fair price.  what could be better than that?  vintage “spectator” wing-backs circa 1950 – $1695 PAIR (SOLD)

encrusted sawtooth stool

sawtooth stoolthis glamorous little stool is a terrific accent piece and one of our favorite new home accessories. suitable for any room in you home, the stool is sure to create a modern glamorous look. when we first saw it we thought it was encrusted with natural minerals. the maker describes it as a teak “tooth” stool which has been dramatically elevated.  we certainly agree.  the thick chunky legs support a flat top which is perfect for occasional seating or resting a cocktail. the construction process is truly unique. to begin the stool is hand cut from a single piece of wood.  next, it is given a dark backwash finish.  finally, the natural gaps in the wood are filled with clear acrylic resin and small light amber mirrored squares. this process creates a dramatic light capturing effect - almost like pyrite caught in clear sap. because of the natural nature of the materials, and the handcrafted nature of each stool, each piece has slight variances.  the stool can also be special ordered in a natural and whitewashed finish.  encrusted sawtooth stool – $795.00

cheetah vintage wing-back

leopard wingback chairwe love a wing-back.  but we love an animal print even more.  it’s hard to describe why some animal prints read park avenue chic, while others feel so real housewives of new jersey.  in this case our chair is certainly so much more uptown pied a terre than paramus park mall.  the circa 1970s chair was found at a local estate auction.  it has been completely reworked from top to bottom (we love starting with an older piece as the craftsmanship and construction are far superior to what you will often find today).  the cabriole legs have been refinished using a matte gilding technique which provides an ultra chic foundation for the piece.  much of the stuffing has been replaced – however the quality down filling of the detachable bolster pillow remains. the fabric comes from ralph lauren home and all of the upholstery has been redone by a master craftsman in our furniture studio.  all in all this is an exceptional piece of furniture whcih would integrate well into any design environment.  the classic lines, and bold yet refined feel of the print, will certainly make any design affectianato purr with delight.  vintage wing-back with cheetah upholstery – $1895 (SOLD)

lucite bar cart

bar cartwe love the square sleek lines of this bar cart.  and of course we love anything in lucite.  it is a wonderful functional piece which adds a bit of late 20th century glamour to any setting.  the piece is constructed of thick lucite bars and is set upon brass casters. it has three clear tempered glass shelves which provide a lot of storage. the clarity and quality of the pristine lucite is especially evident in person.  also note the cool industrial feel of the visible screwed seaming. this is a new piece with vintage charm.  the piece would also serve as a chic side table or a stylish way to manage electronic components.  and of course it looks especially handsome stacked with coffee table books and other cool home accessories from our shop.  lucite bar cart – 1295.00 (SOLD)

vintage arm chairs with rainbow ikat upholstery

i thought i was over ikat.  what seemed so fresh and cool five years ago has become a bit ubicquitous on the design scece.  that was until i found this frabric from a wonderful suuplier in atlanta.  there is somehting about the color and the weave that is just so incredibly happy.  the word rainbow generally makes me cringe, but in this case the colors have the perfect balance and restarint.  they come together to make such a joyful pattern.  the chairs were rescued at an estate auction – we believe they are circa 1960s, with a dark pecan look which was incrfedibly dated.  the chairs were refworked in my freind alma’s signature ebony finish.  the result is something which is much more sleek and modern.  the best quality about vintage arm chairs is the weight.  the solid construction of this pair is wonderfuly luxurious.  the pair would look wonderful in a living room and also would be the perfect anchors for a chic dining room table.  the key is to embrace the pattern and own it.  in return you will gain something in your home whcih will likely make you smile very single day.  vintage ebonized armchairs with rainbow ikat upholstery – 1695 PAIR (SOLD)

bergere chair recovered in a vintage blanket

indian blanket chairsince first arriving on the floor last week this chair has been getting a lot of attention.  after the success of our cow hide covered louis x chairs last season we decided to try something new. this is our first time working with what has proven to be a very intesteting and exciting combination of furniture and fabric.  honestly we couldn’t be more pleased with the way this initial chair turned out.  the honey colored bergere chair came to us from a local estate sale. we believe it to date from the 1950s.  it is in pristine condition with a warm golden finish.  The vintage blanket was found on a recent scouting trip, buried deep in a pile.  It was for sure the prize of the bunch. We believe it dates back to the early 20th century.  For such an old blanket it was in wonderful condition – with no moth holes, stains or tears.  The armrests, carriage, and piping of the chair are all are finished in a slubby beige silk linen.  There is something very special in the way the indian motif in the blanket plays off the more classic lines of the chir.  It is a true one of a kind creation.  Stay tuned for more pieces like this as we luanch our southeast by southwest motif next month.  Bergere Chair Covered with a Vintage Indian Blanket – to be featured in the 2012 “chairs for charity” event on november 7th

lucite cube benches with grey woven cushion

lucite cube bench with grey topnew in our furniture studio is this handsome pair of acrylic cube benches.  the cubes are custom made for us by a small furniture purveyor in california – one that works primarily in lucite.  the excellent construction is evident throughout – the base of the cube formed from 4 panels 1/3″ lucite.  the cushions are fabricated from a durable steel grey woven material with a linen-like texture.  The cubes would be terrific placed in a pair – creating a strong conversation area.  They also would be great at the foot of a bed or anywhere you need occasional seating.  The benches are sold individually and can be customized with your own fabric.  Or we are happy to help you create something that is just right for your space.  Special orders have a 6 to 8 week lead time.  Modern style with a lighter feel appropriate for a broad array of design motifs.  lucite cubes with woven grey cushion – $995

inlaid shell and mother of pearl and shell writing desk

indian inlaid deskwe love this delicate and sophisticated handcrafted desk from india.  like the metal bureau described below it comes to us from one of india’s oldest artisanal furniture makers.  the floral pattern is comprised of hand inlaid pieces of shell, bone and wood.  the final effect is extraordinary.  we also love the cool grey tones versus the standard process which generally focuses on black and white.  with three drawers and thin cabriole legs.  the scale is perfect for in office or a bedroom and it pairs beautifully with the small metal side chair we also sourced from this same factory.  come in, take a seat, and imagine all the interesting and exciting correspondence which will channel from this exotic beauty.  inlaid mother or pearl desk with mother of pearl and shell detailing – $1495 (SOLD)

handmade metal bureau from india

metal bureauwe consistently find ourselves attracted to metal furniture (see the multiple posts below).  it all began while visiting family in santa fe where we often admire both mexican and indian made pieces made from hand-hammered metal (my mom has the most amazing example in her home).  in this process wooden furniture frames are completely wrapped in sheets of hand formed metal creating a custom finish – which is in this case is smooth.  fascinating.  on a scouting trip last fall we came across this bureau and it reminded us of what we loved most about ethnic furniture.  the piece comes from india where it was made by hand in a centuries old factory specializing  in metal-craft.  composed of four roomy drawers this bureau is perfect for any room in your home.  but the most intriguing thing about it, is observing how again and again people are drawn to it, to feel the smooth metal exterior, again convincing themselves by touch that this is not trompe l’oeil, but in fact smooth tin.  metal bureau handmade in india – $1895.00 (SOLD)

vintage gilded console cira 1930′s

gold tablethis exceptional gilded entry table is a rare find.  it began its life a bit battered and bruised – with a dark stained finish.  however it had great bones; solid wood construction and hand craved details. we think it is from the 1930s. back in our shop our master restorer refinished the piece using a hand-applied gold leaf technique.  this creates a depth and brightness that is worlds away from a painted process.  also, because it is composed of natural minerals (including gold), the piece will slightly fade and further patina over time. the shape and size is perfect for an entry way or small corner.  the design would also integrate equally well into both a traditional or more modern environment (we love to mix).  a similar piece has been a fixture in our store for years, and people often inquire about it.  so we were especially excited when we came across this gem on a scouting trip.  and we have to say that in the end the finished product turned out even better than what we had imagined. 1930s console with hand applied gold leaf finish  (45″L x18″W x30.5H) - $995  – (SOLD)

a pair of ebonized chairs with our signature grey upholstery

ebonized louis xiv grey chairsokay – we promise this is the last time we’re going back to the well with this combination.  but you have to admit that the deep richness of the ebony finish pairs splendidly with the cozy feel of the grey flannelled wool.  men love it.  women love it.  puppies love it.  okay maybe puppies like everything.  found in a resale store, with a beat-up pecan finish and a dilapidated tragic upholstery job, these chairs look oh-so-much better after rehab.  the finish and upholstery are completely new and the seat cushions are fully detachable.  the durable flanneled wool is easy on the eye, with a terrific hand.  it is also easy to care for - a fact that makes it perfect with today’s modern lifestyle.  we believe the chairs date back to the 1960s and they certainly have a louis XIV air about them.  broad in design, and bold in style, they are certain to make a statement in any room.  and they are the last grey and black chairs we’ll have in store (for a while at least). 1960s louis XIV chairs with ebony finish and grey flanneled wool upholstery – $1295 PAIR (SOLD)

waylande gregory ceramic home accessories

wayland gregoryafter selling out of inital delivery, we have a strong assortment of the waylande gregory ceramics collection back in stock. waylande gregory was a prolific artist working in the 1920s and 30s – most notably contributing to many of the ceramic reliefs on WPA commissions and working as a noted ceramicist within the “american bauhaus” movement.  his pieces were highly prized by hollywood celebrities and in the 1940s he began a line of small   decorative works that were made in limited editions and sold at stores like neiman marcus, tiffany and gumps.  two years ago gregory’s nephew relaunched the collection – bringing back select designs from his uncle’s achieves.  like the original pieces all of the collection is hand painted and finished with exquisite attention to detail (and many are finished in real gold).  we are excited to be a part of the carefully curated group of stores who have been selected to carry these modern masterpieces.  waylande gregory collection (pieces range from $125 to $295).

vintage danish modern arm chair

this piece is another great rescue furniture find.  it came into the workshop battered and worn with a terrible upholstery job.  through much effort, the piece has been rehabilitated and reworked.  the entire chair was taken apart and re-glued back together so it ready for the future.  it also has been reupholstered in a black soft pebble hide that was imported from scandinavia.  the resulting piece is a wonderful example of vintage modern design.  we would pair it with our handsome vintage and chrome sheep skin stool.  together they would make a killer interiors combo.  the is the perfect accent piece to bring into any room to add a bit of vintage flair.  we are big fans of of clients who have the confidence to mix different design periods within their home.  integrating a piece like this into your design scheme is a certain way to begin that statement.  vintage danish modern chair circa 1960s – $995 (SOLD)

gold garden stools

gold stools

these handsome garden stools are really for any place in your home but the garden. 100% ceramic they have an outstanding high shine glaze which creates a glamorous addition to any setting.  the stools are perfect side tables for any living area and they also can be pulled forward to be used as extra seating.  each one is cast by hand with it’s own signature finish.  the asian motif is accentuated by the lotus cut outs and relief detailing. when we came across them earlier this year we thought they were a perfect way to add a bit of high style to any room or setting.  they work equally well with a traditional or more modern design aesthetic. and their price makes them easy enough to buy in pairs.  high shine gold cerimaic garden stools – $395 each (SOLD – available via special order)

milo baughman zebra bench

we constantly hear call-outs for extra long benches for use at the end of the bed or to make a more dramatic statement in a living area. this handsome american made beauty more than satisfies that request.  found at a local estate auction it is a milo baughman design manufactured by thayer coggin.  we think it dates back to the 1960s.  the finish on the legs was restored and the piece has been reupholstered in a butter and beige tonal zebra print.  it is sure to make a big splash wherever you place it. and in spite of its length it certainly radiates a light and happy feel.  vintage milo baughman bench recovered in a beige zebra print       (14 1/2 h x 48 w) - $1295.00 (SOLD)

1980′s asian inspired arm-chairs

hound tooth chairs

from an estate auction, this pair of ebonized armchairs has been reupholstered in grey hounds-tooth fabric (it was recently pointed out to us that we may be a bit fixated on grey fabric at the moment – noted).  they have terrific lines and the carved asian/bamboo effect on the framing is highly stylized.  masculine and sturdy, we feel they would be perfect at the helm of a spectacular dining room table.  or they would also be perfectly placed in a living room or bedroom as a pair of occasional chairs.  their luxury comes from their weight and solid construction.  the hounds-tooth is a new for us.  we are seeing hounds-tooth all over the fashion runways for fall and thus thought this over-sized graphic version was pretty spectacular and would translate well to home (the photos don’t do justice to its dimensional texture).  in a way these chairs scream nancy reagen to me.  don’t cringe or ask me why.  ebonized armchairs circa 1980, upholstered in a grey houndstooth pattern – $1295 PAIR (SOLD)

grey saucer chairs

grey saucer chairs

these vintage saucer chairs were an amazing find at a local estate sale.  they certainly didn’t look quite as chic when they were covered in yellow slubby burlap.  however, their promise was illustrated by the sleek shape and original walnut legs.  the chairs have been recovered in grey flanneled wool and have new seat cushions.  the hand of the fabric is reminiscent of a fine men’s blazer. our clients always seem to respond to pairs of chairs and it is rare to find two from this era (we believe they date from the 1960s).  the chairs are true one of a kind pieces and they already have received a lot of attention since arriving in the store last week.  saucer chairs circa 1960s – recovered in grey flanneled wool – $1895 PAIR (SOLD)

grey-toned english writing desk

the latest estate piece to arrive in the store is a real stand-out.  this wooden english writing desk has the most amazing and complex graphite grey finish.  we believe it dates from the 1950s, it is attributed to england  and it is in exceptional condition.  the large desk has three individual center drawers and handsome cabriole legs. the solid construction reflects the piece’s fine heritage. and like the silvered bureau we featuered last month, one of the most amazing parts of this piece is its ability to trick the eye.  the hand applied tonal color resembles metal from afar.  the desk would make a bold statement in either a traditional or more contemporary setting – it has an both an industrial and a glamorous side (the desk is shown here with  a truly unique vintage 1960′s italian lamp with a metal shade a marble base $395).  graphite-finished english wooden writing desk (48″W x 28″D x 30″H)  $1295 (SOLD)

shell back chair

shell back chairthis chair is a true one of a kind original.  we believe it dates from the late 1940s.  it’s lines and overall design aesthetic certainly signal the transformation from art deco to modernism.  the shelled back is a unique detail and a rare find.  the curved lines of the arms and legs reflect the pieces amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail.  the chair has a new low shine ebony finish and it has been reupholstered in our signature grey flannel. this chair is a stunning example of american design. shell backed chair upholstered in grey flannel – $995  (SOLD)

vintage silvered bureau

grey bureau

the latest masterpiece from alma obrikat, my friend and master restorer.  this bureau came into her workshop with a tragic tacky green paint-job.  today it gleams with her hand-applied silver finish.  at first glance your eye tricks you into thinking it’s metal – that’s the magic.  we think the bureau dates from the 1920s, with sold wood construction throughout (plus the top center drawer includes a very cool sliding compartment) and all of the hardware is original. the uses for this one of a kind piece are endless – and it is certain to make a bold statement in any room.  vintage bureau with hand applied silver finish – $1695 (SOLD)

tibetan lamb stools

tibetan lamb stoolwe found these amazing stools during our last buying trip to new york.  wow, we had seen many custom chrome and leather stools before, but had never seen anyone use tibetn lamb to cover furniture (tibetan lamb is almost exactly like mongolian lamb).  the lamb cover creates a puff of color on top of the chrome base; and because it is a natural hide they are surpsringly durable.  the stools can be custom ordered in a wide array of color – including black, chocolate brown and a light camel.  the version pictured here is a made in pale grey version which has a natural white color at the tips (swatches are available).  the stools are rectangular in shape and have a diagonal cross bar at the base.  the rods that compose the legs and base are square in shape. many of our cleints have ordered them in pairs to use as accent furniture in their living rooms.  however, as singles they would perfectly mate with any dressing table.  they each measure  20″L  x  16″W  x  20″H.  tibetan lamb and chrome benches – $995 EACH.

deco swag chair

deco swag chair

my friend alma found this one of a kind art deco chair and lovingly brought it back to life using her custom ebony finish.  it is a truly unique piece and is unlike anything either of us have come across before.  the chair would be perfectly suited for an entry or well paired with any glamorous desk.  the tufted seat has been reupholstered in cream and black ikat.  the swag detail was originally carved by hand and is reminiscent of a time when furniture making was a true art form.  this glorious detail, along with the chair’s delicate lines, work together create 1920s masterpiece.  deco swag chair with ikat seat – $995.00 (SOLD)

belgian cow hide chair

cow hide chair

this louis xv style chair (circa the 1910s) recently came over in a crate from belgium.  it had a traditional needlepoint upholstery which was in need of an update.  the chair has been refinished in a deep brown with a slight shine to it.  the hide came to me directly from cowboy i met on my last trip to santa fe.  he has an amazing eye for picking out the very best skins and this brindle version which has both chocolate and caramel coloring (along with white and grey) was an exceptional find.  the seat cushion and back have also been restored.  these chairs are hard to find and they sell quickly because people love the confident feel of the multiple design styles mixed within this one lovely piece.  stop in and check this one out.  belgian louis xv chair refinished and reupholstered in brindle hide – $1295 (SOLD)

vintage leather pub chairs

pulo chairs

these two pub chairs came to us from a north shore residence.  but we like to think that they once lived in a english pub or sat in cool country club on the 19th hole. our restorer cleaned the chairs up just enough to not detract from their perfect patina.  the dark wood finish has been retouched and evened out.  however, we have left the red leather upholstery just as we found it – with lots of deep creases and cracks to reflect the chairs’ age.  these chairs are exceptionally handsome and would be great occasional chairs in a den or as end chairs for your dining table. some may wonder why we didn’t redo the nail-heads or re-stuff the seats – but if you have to ask those questions then these chairs simply are not for you.  red leather pub chairs, circa 1930s – $995 PAIR  (SOLD)

lucite & stool with rope handles and tufted velvet seat

lucite cube with rope handles

so soft and subtle the seat looks like it might be floating on a cloud.  it’s not magic. instead it is superb design and excellent construction.  this lucite stool offers the perfect extra seating in your living room; the rope handles adding terrific portability.  and wouldn’t a pair of them be perfect flanking a fireplace?  both modern and somewhat serene.  constructed of 1/4″ lucite - the top is covered in tufted midnight grey velvet.  available for special order with customer’s own fabric.  lucite & velvet stool with rope handles - $1495 (SOLD)

gilded wingback with mod deco upholstery

gold wingback chair

we found this cool carved wing-back on a recent buying run down south.  the chair, which likely dates from the 1950s, was in sad sorry shape as it sat in an empty tobacco warehouse.  it was covered in dust and most of the gold finish had chipped away.  luckily our restorer had just the right hand as she reworked its surfaces. we felt this cut velvet print perfectly suited the grand nature of the frame.  and its black and white motif (with a mod asian feel) certainly dovetails perfectly with the “disco/deco” motif happening in the store right now.  it is certainly a handsome one of a kind piece.  vintage gilded wingeback with mod velvet upholstery – $1895 (SOLD)

1950′s wingback chair recovered in zebra linen

1950's wingback recovered in zebra linenthis chair was particularly sad when we first met.  i discovered it jumbled atop a heap of old furniture in sombody’s garage.  however, the moment  i picked it up i knew it had a second life in-store.  the weight of this piece is terrific and the solid wood construction is from another era.  plus the proportions are just right. all of these features combine to make it extremely comfortable to sit in.  at the beginning of the restoration effort the legs were cleaned up and ebonized.  next my upholsterer did a masterful job - the piping is like delicately placed icing.  i am also particularly fond of the round button details at the end of each arm – they add even more charm to what is already an immensely charming piece.  wingback circa 1950 covered in zebra print linen - $995.00 (SOLD)

extra long cow hide and chrome bench

long hide and chrome bench this long brindle hide bench with chrome legs was one of our favorite finds from last winter’s new york market.  the bench is composed of three brindle cow hide squares mounted on to a cushion atop a broad x base.  the hides closely coordinate in color - all in cool tones.  this style also comes in a smaller version which is about a third of the width.  the long version shown here  provides perfect extra seating in a living room.  it would be great at the foot of any bed and would also be super chic when used as a pair of dining benches. colorado cool meets modern down town  - we love it.  long cow hide and chrome bench - $1295  (SOLD)

deco side chair

deco chair

this small rounded side chair dates back to the 1930s.  to me it looks like it just came off a black and white vintage movie set or perhaps it once sat in the state room of a grand ocean liner.  it has been completely refinished.  the wood has a high-gloss black shine and the chair is reupholstered in soft dove grey leather.  it has inlaid brass details on the back and legs. the finial orbs at the base of the arms add additional interest.  this chair has an old soul. now thanks to some amazing restoration it has a new lease on life – and an oh so glamorous one at that.  deco ebonized size chair with leather upholstery and brass details – $1195 (SOLD)

english chesterfield sofa

english chesterfield sofawe found this amazing deep red leather chesterfield sofa on a recent buying excursion down south.   a lovely couple had brought it over from england in a crate with other vintage pieces.  we think it came out of an small inn near london and that it dates back to the 1940s.  deep red with black lowlights in the less worn areas, the patina of the leather is amazing – softy worn with natural distressing throughout.  the sofa is in excellent condition for its age – with no rips or tears (and every button is in place).  it is incredibly comfortable – firm and solid. we have never seen one in this colorway before. what a super chic piece with a marvelous pedigre - and can you imagine the stories it could tell?   it measures 76″l x 34″w x 26″ h.  vintage english chesterfield sofa in deep red – $2895  (SOLD)

giant wingback chairs – circa 1970s

giant wingback

these wing-backs came from a local furniture auction.  when we found them they were were covered in an awful red toile (and in bad need of a make-over). clearly they found one. we belive the pair date from he early1970s; based on their lines and solid construction.  they  have taken on a new life in light grey wool upholstery.  the molton fabric is from new zealand and has a terrific soft hand – like a fine men’s blazer.  the chairs are piped in cream twill.  the legs have been freshly ebonized legs for a dramtic contrast.  they would be great accent pieces for a den or office.  the large scale would also add a hint of drama to any small space.   the chairs measure 31W  x  33D  x  48H. 1970′s giant grey wool wingbacks - $2895 pair (SOLD)
